This view locates the dwarf planet where New Horizons images revealed six large landslides. Pluto circles the Sun at an average distance of about 39 AU; its eccentric 248-year orbit ranges from about 30 to 49.3 AU.
The Sun-to-Pluto line uses the scene distance scale. The glowing target and labels are enlarged; the average-radius orbit and animated phase are representative, not a live ephemeris or a reconstruction of the 2015 flyby.
